From entire designs, appliances to colour schemes, stay ahead of the trends this year and keep reading.
1. Scandinavian design
Scandinavian-designed kitchens bring together the seamless blend of comfort, simplicity, and practicality. These concepts are the perfect balance for a kitchen, keeping the room feeling homely but ergonomic for cooking. Whilst following Scandinavian aspects like minimalistic, crisp lines, and light colour pallets these kitchens are full of various textures which add depth to the space. This can easily be achieved with exposed wooden shelving and tables. Exposed wooden shelving aren’t just a lovely decor feature but great to utilise. Let your kitchen condiments take centre stage – herbs, spices pasta, coffee and tea, cookbooks or bottles of red wine – pretty much anything you like!
These gorgeous kitchens don’t just stick to white, Nordic pallets use naturally occurring colours like beige, browns, icy blues, and forest green. Scandinavian design always considers lighting. As winter in the northern hemisphere consists of extremely long nights and short days, these interiors are always considering how to keep the room looking as bright and airy as possible. It is popular in Scandinavian designed kitchens to create an open plan space by removing walls to create a larger room. This larger kitchen/living room does not just feel more light and airy but windows from both previous rooms now provide natural lighting for the single open-plan kitchen. Feature lights, candles, and appliances with LED’s are also great to keep the room lit and homely.
2. A pop of colour
Neutrals are always going to be a favourite in the kitchen, however, the clever use of a statement colour seems to be an upcoming trend in 2022. By choosing a statement colour you can swap colours at a later date when you want to refresh your interior! The use of orange in this space adds warmth to this classic contemporary monochrome kitchen.
White and neutral kitchens are always going to be popular due to their versatile, timeless feel, but if you are like me and love colourful décor but have a new favourite colour each season I want in my interior this trend if for you. Add a bright colour to your décor which you can switch every few months or years if you wish! If you like to change things up each season stick to bold accessories. Sage green accessories and plants in Spring to add that fresh feel. Small yellow appliances and some sunflowers to bring the sunshine into your home. Orange pillows or seasonal veg in Autumn. Festive gold photo frames and Christmas decorations in Winter. These pops of colour against a neutral or white kitchen make such a huge difference to your décor. If you want something more long-term why not try brightly coloured seating? This makes such a difference and if you have an open plan you could coordinate with matching pillows on the sofa. If you want to change up the statement colour every few years when your taste and style changes this is easy to do, your kitchen is a blank canvas!
3. Statement extractors
Gone are the days when designers hide extractors out of the way. The evolution of cooker hood technology and design has resulted in these appliances becoming an art form. Faber, the inventors of the domestic cooker hood, are known for their bold, all singing all dancing kitchen extractors. Faber’s statement hoods are in a variety of different shapes, colours and textures, that can really elevate an interior, like a work of art. Some homeowners that want to keep their kitchen design minimal and timeless tend to choose a striking extractor to add character to a space. Creating a focal point can be a challenge for large open plan kitchens. By choosing a grand, designer cooker hood the eye is automatically drawn to these beautiful creations. Faber has taken these attention-seeking hoods to the next level with their exclusive “up&down technology”, with a press of a button these F-light hoods are lowered down towards the hob ready to extract cooking odours efficiently. F-light hoods are the ultimate showstopper.
4. Discreet and hidden appliances
Discreet hidden appliances are amazing if you want to give the illusion of more space or if you love a minimalist kitchen. Kitchen islands are a great place to hide away appliances that you don’t always want on show. For example, the Fabula downdraft faber hood sits behind the hob hidden away, with the touch of a button the extractor rises up ready to extract away cooking steam and grease. You can also use your island to feature a discreet wine fridge or cooler. This trend is not just pleasing to the eye but utilises every inch of space available.
Think up! Most people forget about utilising the ceiling in their kitchen. This is a great space to install a cooker hood. With Faber you have the choice of either a ceiling or island extractor. These hoods are up, out of the way and can add a statement to an empty space. Extractors like the Highlight are unnoticeable until you switch on their light to reveal a gorgeous, powerful LED light that helps to illuminate the hob below. Love chandeliers? The Nest looks like a gorgeous glass chandelier light fitting from afar, but with the additional of Faber’s “up&down technology” it quickly turns into an efficient extractor when it is lowered towards the worktop.
5. Dark and moody
Dark kitchens will be a huge trend in 2022. We predict that rich colours like forest green, navy and purple will be popping up all over your Pinterest feed. The use of dark colours can be added to create a luxurious feeling in a kitchen design.
Black will also be used in innovative ways: black marble islands, black appliances, black sinks, and furniture. Dark colours scream drama and are a direct contrast to the favourite all-white kitchen. Those who stray away from a dark interior, will use careful accenting to add some serious style. Black accents in white kitchens are a bold, beautiful way of incorporating black without making a space feel smaller. Industrial kitchens are a great option for this trend. Try choosing black appliances such as a range cooker, or a cooker hood like the incredible Faber T-shelf extractor. This is a black cooker hood and shelving unit in one!
